This project started with an off the cuff remark. My client wanted to memorialize her recently passed beloved chihuahua and came to me to create one in mosaic. She also had two german shepherds and was hoping to do all three. I jokingly said, “wouldn’t it be funny to do a giant chihuahua and regular sized german shepherds?” Without missing a beat, she said YES! Because that is their personality. They run the show. And so the project began.
After finalizing the positions of the dogs and getting the scale right, I had the chihuahua fabricated by a specialist in carving styrofoam and covering it with concrete, the perfect solution to keep the piece on the lighter side. The german shepherds were done separately, one out of clay and one out of fiberglass.
The project took me about one year from start to finish.
